Please join us on Friday February 16th for our Community Learning Exchanges (CLX) - a facilitated intergenerational and interactive workshop where participants will get the opportunity to reimagine how BART evaluates issues of safety, specifically when it comes to sexual harassment and gender-based violence - hosted by Alliance for Girls and BART. The CLX is for BART student riders, girls and gender-expansive youth of color, community leaders, and adult riders.

The purpose of this CLX is to engage girls and gender-expansive youth (13-26) who ride BART or other transit–particularly youth from low-income communities and/or youth of color , as well as those who don’t currently ride transit in order to develop the first youth-informed evaluation framework and tools for BART focusing on rider safety as it pertains to sexual harassment and assault prevention and intervention at BART.

Goal of our Community Learning Exchange:

We want to develop a youth-informed evaluation to improve policy and processes around sexual harassment and assault prevention and intervention for the safety of girls and gender-expansive youth riding BART. This framework will serve as a tool for BART to measure and be accountable to girls’ and gender-expansive youth’s safety and will be accompanied by key recommendations on how to use data acquired from this framework and tools to create data-driven policy and process changes. By participating in one of our three CLX, you will contribute to building this framework (with ways to measure safety, supporting practices, how to use it, where it should be used) based on your lived experience showing how sexual harassment and assault prevention and intervention should be measured and addressed by BART.

Attendees will be asked to complete a brief survey as part of their registration. This survey will help AFG get a sense of the demographic makeup and level of public transportation user in each CLX so that we can adapt our agenda accordingly.

Participants attending the in-person workshop will receive a stipend of $100.

The event will be hosted in-person. For questions, please contact nia@alliance4girls.org. With at least 48 hours prior to the event, we’ll make every effort to provide accommodation requests.

*“Girls and gender-expansive youth” refers to cis girls, trans girls, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth, and any girl-identified youth.
